The Westmark Fairbanks Tower was a Design-Build, 8-story, 150,000 square foot addition to the existing Westmark Hotel in downtown Fairbanks. The exterior curtain wall construction consisted of architectural insulated panels with granite-stone finish, granite-stone bands, and ceramic tile accents. In addition to the 300 guestrooms, other new construction consisted of commercial laundry facilities, board rooms, lounge, and a remodel/expansion of the existing restaurant. Additionally, administrative offices, front desk, and some existing public space was relocated, expanded, and remodeled. Site development included: demolition and remediation of existing older wings of the hotel for new foundations; relocation and installation of new utilities; and new parking, walks, and drives. The existing hotel and rooms remained in operation during construction. Demolition of existing structures was completed in August 2002. The foundation system was completed in fall 2002. Structural steel erection started in spring of 2003 and final completion was in May of 2004.
