2017 Building Healthy Kids Toy Drive!

Thank you to Everyone who participated in the 2017 Building Healthy Kids Toy Drive!

The Building Healthy Kids Toy Drive donates building toys to the Children’s Hospital at Providence.

Any type of donation is welcome during this toy drive, but there are several reasons we’re focusing building toys specifically. A building toy can aid with recovery and literally help a child rebuild their brain after a traumatic event. They give kids the power to create, explore and master their environment is not only rewarding, but imperative to the healing process.

Bonnie Hiers, a Certified Child Life Specialist at the Children’s Hospital at Providence told us that these types of toys create opportunities for children to practice a variety of skills such as:

  • Fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and visual discrimination
  • Recognition of shapes, colors, and textures
  • Comparison of similarities and differences, matching, classification, and pattern recognition
  • Following directions, following sequences, and concentrating for completing tasks

Building toys can help change the way kids think. They’re not just fun, they can be an important part of the therapy and recovery process.
