Sand Lake Elementary Renewal
Anchorage, Alaska
Owner: Anchorage School District

Architects: nVision Architecture

Project Start Date: June 2008 (preconstruction)

Project Completion: August 2010

Project Manager: Andy King

Currently in preconstruction, this construction-manager-at-risk project will renew an old school by demolishing about 2/3 of the existing school, and renovating the remaining seven classrooms, toilet facilities and the gymnasium. When completed it will be a 26-classroom school. The Multi-purpose room will be connected to the Gym. The new classroom wing will be on two levels, and the Administration, IMC, Music and Art room to be on single level.

The exterior will have metal sidings, stucco/EIFS on metal studs with batt insulation and translucent panels are planned for tactile texture and color. Main entry will have covered canopies. The roofing will be EPDM Single ply membrane over rigid insulation. This being a Japanese immersion school, it will have translucent light panels (Kal-wall) reminiscent of the Shoji Screen that are often used within the Japanese culture.
