Providence Region Building (old API)
Anchorage, State
Owner: Providence Alaska Medical Center

Architects: RIM Architects (AK), LLC

Project Start Date: August 2005

Project Completion: December 2006

The reuse of the old Alaska Psychiatric Institute building consolidates Providence Alaska Medical Administrative personnel into a single facility and compliment the Providence Alaska Medical Center campus plan for mid-term use. The 130,000 square foot Class “B” Office reuse-renovation to the current campus will accommodate approximately 500 administrative personnel.

The architecture for this reuse is compatible with current architecture at the Providence Alaska Medical Campus. The building will retain the existing building layout and maximize an open office concept along with conference, meeting, lobby, break, storage and other administrative spaces. Core support areas include restrooms, stairs, new Class “B” retrofitted elevators, shafts, mechanical/ electrical and data rooms and mechanical penthouse. The exterior elevations has been modified with strong entry elements that relate to the existing Providence architecture. The site is designed as an extension of the Southwest Campus. There are two entrances to the building. The existing front entrance has been changed to create a “public entrance” and “signature” for the building. Visitors will use this entrance and small parking lot with access to Piper Street Phase II..
