The new Westmark tower is a design/build, eight-story 150,000 square foot addition to the existing Westmark Hotel in downtown Fairbanks. The exterior curtain wall construction consists of architectural insulated panels with "granite-stone" finish, granite-stone bands, and ceramic tile accents. In addition to the 300 guestrooms, other new construction consists of commercial laundry facilities, board rooms, lounge and remodel/expansion of existing restaurant. Additionally, administrative offices, front desk and some existing public space will be relocated, expanded and remodeled. Site development includes demolition and remediation of existing older wings of hotel for new foundations; relocation and installation of new utilities; new parking, walks and drives. Existing hotel and rooms to remain in operation during construction. Demolition of existing structures completed on August 18. Foundation system to be completed in Fall of 2002. Structural Steel Erection in Spring of 2003. Final completion May of 2004.
