This
design/build project located in Bethel, Alaska, was built
as Alaska Airlines largest remote airline terminal facility.
The building encloses a full service terminal, cargo warehouse,
and tenant lease space. The building design consists of a
24,000 sf pre-engineered structure incorporating an existing
cargo building remaining in operation during construction.
Work
included: Contaminated soil and site remediation; excavation
and installation of frost free foundation systems; water and
wastewater treatment systems; extension and construction of
building utilities. Concrete and A/C paving at parking and
drives; airport and apron site improvements; pre-engineered
steel structure; custom insulated panel systems; interior
finishes pursuant to strict Alaska Airline prototype design;
baggage handling systems; cargo facilities and equipment.
This project was substantially completed
in a 7 month construction period. This project highlights the
rewards of a well planned design/build project. The challenge
was to overcome the relatively narrow window of opportunity
for summer barge schedules and a very short period of seasonable
weather for civil and structural work to be performed. By working
closely with the Architect and Owner from design through completion,
Davis Constructors was able to provide a budget significantly
below the Owner's original estimate, complete the job 2 months
ahead of schedule, and significantly under the final contract
budget resulting in savings to the Owner. Return
