The CITC Non-Profit Service Center
building is reflective of the corporate character and uniqueness
of the occupants; a place of distinction for employees of
CITC and affiliate entities to conduct business and provide
services. This facility, housing a compilation of many department
and nonprofit entities, provides a convenient, comprehensive
place that is beneficial to the overall health of the community
of Anchorage as well as the whole Alaska Native Community.
The building’s architecture
reflects a context of birch skin and birch forest. The building’s
exterior skin is primarily porcelain tile with irregularly
spaced glass and corrugated metal panel on the first floor.
This composition emulates the random white and black patterning
of the skin of the birch. Entry points to the building are
inset and transparent, with accentuated randomly spaced white
vertical window mullions like that of the trunks of birches
in a forest environment. This aesthetic is further reinforced
by a landscape design at each entry point to the building
utilizing a natural birch forest theme. The overall design
build strategy is to assure that the finished project not
only satisfies the technical requirements but is appropriately
sensitive to those who need and benefit from these services.
